Ichiban

Writes:  I, too, am a realist.  I'm aware of the pressure frequently put on high school and college coaches by administrators and parents.  The pressure to win.  I recall the words of my father:  "Don't ever be afraid to lose your job, kid.  Because you won't be very good at it if you are."  The imperative to win, at any cost to ethics and values and/or the fear of coaching a losing team, produces distorted and sullied people and institutions.

That's not eh goal of an elite teacher.  That's not the approach of a good coach.
